About District Four

Happy Independence Day!

My Father was born on the Fourth of July in 1915, so this would have been his 93rd birthday and our Nation's 232nd.  So each July 4th has been a double celebration during my life.  Perhaps that why I've held George Washington in such esteem.  I think I must have first really understood Washington's significance as I read an orange-covered biography in grade school.  After Washington, I went through Marion's entire collection of youth-oriented biographies of American heroes.  Two recollections for me are of the sense of accomplishment that these individual created and the marvel of how individuals play a part in great historical events.   I don't claim either greatness or importance, I am just happy to contribute to our civic life.

Murphys' First Friday celebration in the park was a wonderful example of our shared civic life here in the Fourth District.  I trust that each of us honored our Nation and forefathers in our own ways.
